Schools

Schools all over the Fleurieu are being invited to join in a fundraising and community awareness project with three benefits:

  • It will help local children learn about the natural environment in their area, and that learning can be linked to their social science curriculum
  • It will give local children the opportunity to get involved with a project that will protect a nationally endangered bird and its habitat

  • It will alert the whole community to the problem, and get them involved in the solution.

juvenile emuwrens Fleurieu schools are invited to make a contribution by raising $100 or more by the end of June 2007. The whole school or one or more classes can be involved. Schools or classes that commit to joining the Local Hero campaign will receive:

  • A framed certificate with a colour image of a Mt Lofty Ranges Southern Emu-wren (MLRSEW)

  • Information about the Southern Emu-wren and its habitat, the swamps and dry heath of the Fleurieu Peninsula

  • One of our Emu-wren experts will work with your school to plan an excursion to an area where the Southern Emu-wren is known to survive, and will act as a guide as students learn about and observe the bird and its habitat, including the many other life forms that exist there

  • Your school will also be listed as a supporter on this website

Funds can be raised at any time up until the end of June 2007.

To register your interest, please complete a local hero schools registration form and return it to CCSA (120 Wakefield Street, Adelaide SA 5000).

I hope that your school will get behind this important initiative. Remember, you don't need to raise the money now - so long as you agree to be involved, and raise the $100 for sponsorship by 30 June 2007, you will be able to participate and receive the benefits outlined above.
